Ramona and Beezus

I have become a movie buff nowadays. Either i have books in my hands or remote. ofcourse, both is possible only in the absence of kids. I used to borrow books from ramamoorthy athimber and now its getting impossible to visit their house from ours. So, i end up with remote for most of the times. I clearly drawn more towards English movies. Their acting seems to be more natural and particularly their action stunts are more aura and importantly believable. They show the action heroes are marines or spies and got impeccable training to able to perform that. I watch romance, action movies, etc, but i like family dramas more appealing. Whenever i compare english and tamil movies the first movie that comes to my mind is Mrs. doubtfire and avvai shanmugi. How each character is well etched in the movie. their stregnth, weaknesses, what they want in life, what they can give to each other without compromising their self. The biggest tragedy in Avvai Shanmugi is there is no solid reason for her to love the kamal character, or get separate from him, or later reunite with him. There is no soul in meena's character. But that is not the case in mrs. doubtfire. she knows why she loved him but why she cant live with him now as her priorities have changed after become a parent for 3 kids. she expects some level of responsibility with the father figure which the hero cant fulfill. The best part is they dont reunite and run around the trees singing duet. i hate it. I dont understand why a tamil movie should have comedy tracks and duets. Why still they clinging the old musical format dramas.

By chance i saw this movie - Ramona and Beezus. It is entirely about Ramona and a little about Beezus.

Ramona and Beezus (2010)- A Movie Review

This movie is an adaptation of best-selling children book series by Beverly Cleary. The movie starts with capturing the highly imaginative nature of the young school-girl Ramona Quimby, who plays monkey bars with her friend Howie Kemp and imagines that she is hanging between the canyons. Then the movie takes us through the endless (mis) adventure/antics of Ramona.

Ramona’s father loses his job and she overhears her parents’ conversation about their fear of bank taking away their home. And in her imagination she literally sees the home being carried away in a truck. These occasional flights of fancy are particularly enjoyable.

She decides to pitch in and wants to make some money to save their home. She starts with selling lemonades which ends in embarrassing Beezus(her teen sister) and her crush Harry. She then tries “delishus 20$ car wash” which also backfires. Her antics on the photo day in the school, trying to cook dinner for her parents to score some good points everything ends up in further damage. Beezus yells at her and calls her a pest. Later that night when their pet cat dies, they became closer and nicer to each other.

The film tries to appeal to audience of all ages with the characters of Aunt Bea and her high-school flame Hobart.

It’s a must-watch movie over/after a lazy Sunday brunch with your family. A heartwarming film that makes a genuine connection to the joys and trials of childhood. This movie understands how to get into the head of little girls. Plus, there's a little romance for the parents as well.
Don’t miss it.
